October 11th Avian Flu Update
Total Birds Affected: 59,031,321
Spread: 47 States Affected, 420 Counties
Visit: The CDC’s Report Here to see the most recent Outbreaks (Up Until 11th October)
Since January 2022, it’s been called the deadliest outbreak of bird flu in U.S. history.
Luckily, over the last few months, there have been very few reports of Avian Flu outbreaks in the U.S.
However, as of October 10th, there has been another reported outbreak, this time in Montana. But, aside from this Outbreak, there’s also been some chicken chatter about sickness in backyard flocks.
We’ll be closely monitoring the situation and will keep you in the loop as things progress.
A Simple Step Toward Stopping The Spread
Getting a visit from a cute songbird sounds like a magical experience. But, having your yard swarmed by all the neighborhood birds, not so much.
One of the most powerful actions you can take to help stop the spread of Avian Influenza (among many other avian diseases) is to limit your flock’s exposure to wild birds.
The simplest strategy? Stop wild birds from eating your chicken feed, as it’s the reason they are around most of the time anyway!
Our biggest tip: Feed your chickens at regular times throughout the day and only as much as they need (where possible). Therefore limiting the amount of leftovers that go to the wild birds are your flock is done!
Unfortunately, there’s no one magic way to keep all wild birds out of your property, the key is doing what you can to limit their exposure to your chickens.
