Scrambled Eggs... For Chickens?
Don’t get me wrong, having your chickens laying too many eggs to handle is a good problem to have. But, there are only so many you can eat and so many you can give away to your family and friends.
Luckily, there’s one more very fitting customer that’s often forgotten about: your very own chickens!
Yup, you heard right. We love feeding our flock scrambled eggs.
Setting aside the moral controversy some people have with feeding chicken eggs back to chickens — there’s no denying just how beneficial cooked scrambled eggs can be to chickens, including:
Providing High Protein Content: for strong, continued egg production.
Helping Against Vitamin B Deficiencies (If you know, you know)
Helping Molting Chickens
You’ll only really need to feed your chooks about half an egg per chicken, and no more than about once a week. Still, even in these limited quantities, your flock will be able to get the benefits without any downsides.
For all the details check out our full guide.
Don’t Forget To Add Crushed Eggshells!
There’s plenty of research out there that suggests adding eggshells to a chicken’s diet is amazingly beneficial for a laying hen.
Why? Because a chicken’s eggshell is almost all calcium.
By adding coarsely crushed eggshells into your scrambled egg mix you’ll be providing an incredible calcium boost for your laying hens.
This helps with regular and consistent new eggshell formation and helps prevent any calcium deficiencies in your hens which can otherwise cause less frequent egg laying or problems with eggshell formation (like chickens laying eggs with soft shells).
Meet Our Communities’ Silkies
Here at BFL’s Daily Dozen – we absolutely ADORE Silkies (and raise them ourselves).
We reckon we know a good thing or two about them, and have helped literally hundreds of other Silkie owners determine if their Silkies are hens or roos (see here for our guide).
We thought it only fitting to showcase some of the amazing chooks we’ve had the absolute pleasure to meet!
If you’ve got Silkies we would love to see them – so reply to this email with them or post them over on our Facebook Community page for everyone to see.
