The Largest Chicken In The World!
Although I’m fairly content keeping my miniature raptors in the backyard, there are some people who prefer to raise tyrannosaurus-sized chickens.
In fact, according to the Guinness World Records, the largest chicken ever recorded was a White Sully rooster called Weirdo!
Weirdo was a hybrid of a large Rhode Island Red and one other variety created by Grant Sullens, from West Point, California, USA in 1973.
Weirdo weighed 22 lbs. Yup, that’s not a typo. Twenty-two whole pounds (about 3 times the size and weight of a “normal’ rooster).
Now that’s a BFL-approved chicken fact to share around the neighborhood.
A More Modern Giant: Merakli

Although not officially topping the record set by Weirdo, where would we be without mentioning the modern giant Brahma chicken: Merakli!
Merakli went absolutely viral in 2017, when a video was released that showed this enormous beast emerging from his coop, only to walk around quite graciously and show off his stuff (you can check out the video here).
Merakli stands over 3 feet tall and weighs in at almost 17 pounds!
Although I’m quite sure this roo would draw the attention of any hen in a 10-mile radius, it’s been reported that Merakli is no longer single, as he’s settled down with just two of his favorite hens.
To be quite honest with you, I feel a little bad for the hens!
A Protein-Packed Treat For Your Chooks
If you’re like me, your chickens won’t be strangers to protein-packed treats.
But, here at BFL’s Daily Dozen, we’re all about good nutritious treats for our chickens. We would like to welcome you to our homemade peanut butter trail mix recipe:
Add a teaspoon of peanut butter to every chicken
Add a quarter cup mix of your chicken’s favorite seeds per chicken (Chia, Sunflower, Safflower, etc.)
You can optionally add oats, grains, or other foods too!
Stir and mix all the ingredients into one slightly sticky pile of seeds.
Serve this to your flock for an instant protein and energy boost, filled with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
To all those who aren’t quite convinced, don’t worry, your chickens CAN eat peanut butter (in normal, treat-like quantities).
What’s more, it’s a perfect protein-packed energy booster for your flock!
It may not help your chickens grow as big as Weirdo or Merakli, but it’s still plenty good for them!
